SPRAY TAN / SELF TANNING / FAKE TANS
I have NOT had time to investigate the ingredients used on spray-on
tanning solutions, so I currently have NO OPINION as to the safety
of these products. I do, however, wonder about the safety of adding
something to the top of your skin that is not normally present in
real life, but these products may turn out to be beneficial.
At the moment, I don't know of a known-to-be independent laboratory
that tests spray on tan products, but I'll look for them.

you can still get burnt which can be dangerous."

"What about sunless tanning pills?
Sunless tanning pills, which typically contain the color additive canthaxanthin,
are unsafe. When taken in large amounts, canthaxanthin can turn your skin orange
and cause hives. Sunless tanning pills can also cause liver damage and lead to
the formation of crystals in the retina of the eye (canthaxanthin retinopathy)." - MayoClinic

Soothing a Sunburn for KIDS - WebMB
Quoted from the WeMD link, above:
If your child gets sunburn, and is active, playful, and does not have any blisters, here's how you can make him feel better.
Place a cool compress to the sunburn.
Apply aloe gel to the burned skin. Try placing the aloe in the fridge for a few minutes first before using.
Give acetaminophen or ibuprofen. Check with your doctor for the correct dose.
Give your child plenty of fluids.
Do not use over-the-counter pain relieving products containing benzocaine
on sun-burned skin. (These are called topical anesthetics.) They can often
make the pain worse, and some people are allergic to the ingredient.
If your child feels or looks ill, spikes a fever, or has blisters, seek
medical attention."

"Reviews say that newer sunscreen ingredients are now better at blocking
harmful UVA rays, but the product must contain avobenzone (also called
Parsol 1789), titanium dioxide, zinc oxide or Mexoryl SX (Tinosorb
outside the U.S.), to fully protect.
UVA - Ultraviolet A (long-wave 320-400 nm)
"now studies are showing that UVA is a major contributor to skin damage. UVA
penetrates deeper into the skin and works more efficiently. The intensity of
UVA radiation is more constant than UVB without the variations during the day
and throughout the year. UVA is also not filtered by glass." - Effects of Sun on the Skin - About.com
