SSDs-are-they-reliable.txt 2017 Is it true that solid-state drives are unreliable? Can you lose all your files without warning? I sold and marketed SSDs for five years in Silicon Valley at an SSD startup. We were always claiming that SSDs last longer and are more reliable than HDDs, even when we had a 10% RMA rate. Quality varies widely with different controllers, different PCB designs, and the grade of flash used. Now (five years later) I think major brand SSDs like Intel or Samsung are probably more reliable than HDDs, but startups or unknown brands I wouldn't trust. And even among major brands I wouldn't trust their value models.
